Review of My Blood Approves by Amanda Hocking

Fun fact: Amanda Hocking did the covers for the MBA series herself.
Okay so I finally read My Blood Approves.  I think I had been putting it off because I was a little jealous. lol  But I'm over that and happy for her success.

I have heard people criticize the book because it is way into the book before Alice (the protagonist) realizes Jack and his family are vampires.  I honestly don't have a problem with that because it is more realistic.  If you met a guy and he was really attractive and healed quickly would you say, "Wow, I bet you're a vampire" ? No. Because you don't believe in vampires, and neither did Alice.

There is a good twist in mid way that I found refreshing.  I saw it coming a little bit but I didn't think Amanda would actually go there.  I think I really like that about her writing.  She does what she wants and doesn't write what she thinks would be the most popular option.  A side note: Amanda is really into music so the characters are always listening to it or talking about it.  Obviously that doesn't bother me, but it's just something you notice.  It stands out because most editors cut things that might "date" a novel.  Overall I enjoyed it and went on to read the next three in the series. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. You can read the first chapter on the MBA blog here.
